Magical Matt mesmerises Mommas

With two games to go, the Lepers sat proudly at the top of the table but still had a tough game against mid-table Momma before the probable table-topping, titanic tussle against Sporting Airlock.

With Sheen back, the side looked quite strong, despite several notable absentees. Stoner, after a solid run of games in the side, was off to have his nose broken. Spike was off to put on the yellow jacket of Butlins in his latest employment. Jerzak, having served out his four-match suspension, had been whisked off on a genuine Leper sightseeing tour to Washington DC. There were hopes that US immigration would have deported Phil Hoskins due to the law preventing 2 or more Lepers from being in the country. However, he escaped the authorities and contintued his inleprication of New York.

So the Lepers lined up with Sheen, Harvey, Ames, Webb and the returning Drake. Kieran started the game on the subs bench, offering much needed back-up.

The game commenced at as gentle a pace as can be produced with 10 men in a small cage. After exchanging a few shots each Mommas had a great chance as Sheen rolled the ball to the opposition striker in trademark fashion, but also produced the usual excellent save! Minutes later, Matt Ames had put the ball into the back of the Mommas' net and the Lepers were on their way to victory.

As half-time came, Kieran Hayes was introduced into the game and had an almost immediate effect. A cross-field ball from Ames found Harvey close to the corner on the right flank, but instead of shooting to the near-post, he cut the ball back delightfully to the edge of the box where Hayes hammered home with his supposedly weaker right foot. His first Leper goal, joining an illustrous list. The Lepers were flying.

The third goal was soon to follow: Momma Kiely had begun to tire and when Ames intercepted a long ball from the back he poked the ball past the last Momma defender before squeezing the ball past the keeper. The fourth goal was not long in coming. Some tenacious tackling on the edge of the Momma box saw him have two bites of the cherry before blasting the ball home for his second Leper goal.

The game was drawing to its natural conclusion with the Lepers on cruise control. But to break the tedium Ames picked up the ball on the edge of his own box before unleashing a Hellfire missile of a shot from his own half into the top corner of Momma's net, with the keeper left gawping at the excellence of the individual strike. Harvey was quick to point out that he was in a far better position!

With the game over and the Lepers off to the Master Gunner, the pressure was on Airlock to get the three points needed to force a title decider, which they duly did.

The Leper victory did however confirm that they would be playing in Division 3 next season as they were out of reach of both CHA and FC Zizou! Come on, the Lepers!
